This presentation will offer a broad perspective, combined with practical clinical applications, of the Japanese interpretation of Chinese Medicine.

Description

While the classic principles are the same in all Asian medicine, the interpretation and application of them is unique to each culture. Concepts of acupuncture and herbal medicine will be explored. Some key areas will include point location and needling the vector of the point. Also, the Extra Vessels and its pulse palpation will be discussed, as well as treating organ disfunction with the Channel Divergents. Auricular success will focus on the use of the use of the laterality and oscillation points. Finally, a brief discussion of the Kampo style of herbs will be presented. We all do abdominal palpation and this style, unique in that only MD’s prescribe herbs in Japan, connects the abdominal exam with principle herbs and symptoms, or pattern recognition.

At the conclusion of this LIVE webcast physician participants will be able to:

  • Discuss contemporary and underutilized interpretation of classic Chinese Medicine principles.
  • Demonstrate Japanese approach to patient examination and needling.
  • Compare Meridian, Extraordinary Vessels and Divergent Channel approaches to patient treatment.

Butch Levy, MD

Dr. Butch Levy has evolved from a traditional background in Allopathic medicine. In the early 1990’s, he began his training in Chinese medicine and was NCCAOM certified in 1995. As a student, mentored by Dr. Shima, since 1992, his approach reflects a Japanese approach to herbs and acupuncture. His clinical practice integrates this training, bridging the East and the West, by offering Western, Chinese, and Functional medicine.

He has also begun to teach and write more extensively and is currently teaching seminars on The Eight Extraordinary Vessels, The Art of Kampo, and Integrative Cancer Support. Also, available now, is his new herbal case book, called Miraculous Cures from Shang Han Lun Masters.
