About the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture

The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture is the professional organization of allopathic (MDs) and osteopathic (DOs) physicians that advances the evidence-based integration of the practice of medicine and acupuncture to serve our patients.

Membership requirements for the Academy were established in accordance with the training guidelines outlined by the WHO-recognized World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies. The AAMA represents the highest standards of training and proficiency among physicians practicing in North America.

The AAMA currently represents 1,000+ physician acupuncturists in North America and many others from across the globe who participate as international members.

The Academy works in collaboration with:

  • The Medical Acupuncture Research Foundation, which sponsors research paper competitions, awards an annual competitive research grant and encourages robust acupuncture research.
  • The American Board of Medical Acupuncture, which administers a Board Certification program to recognize those physicians who have achieved high levels of training, experience and knowledge in the field of medical acupuncture.
