How to Provide to Acupuncture to Veterans

You can provide acupuncture treatments to US veterans in your area through the VA’s Community Care Network (CCN). Here’s link for more information:

The western and southwestern parts of the US are contracted through TriWest Healthcare Alliance. If you live in the eastern, southern, or middle of the US, you become contracted and credentialled through United Healthcare (UHC). Here’s link showing the regional networks.

For Regions 1, 2, or 3, go to this website to get started.

Note that you must register with UHC as a physician and NOT through Optum as an acupuncturist. Acupuncture is not listed as a procedure on the physician application. Once you have submitted the application, contact OptumServe Credentialing so the agent can assist in getting you connected with the VA CCN program. Here’s the link: optumservecred@optum.com

Explain that you are a physician who plans to offer acupuncture services to veterans through the VA CCN and ask that acupuncture be added to your list of permitted procedures. It may take six to eight weeks to process all of the paperwork. If you run into any problems, email AAMA Legislative Committee Co-Chair, Donna Pittman at aama.pittman@gmail.com.
