Wrist Ankle Acupuncture, Mechanism of Action: A Review of 8 Papers Addressing Four Areas of Neuroanatomy and Physiology Webinar
Presented by Michael Freedman, MD, FAAMA
Wrist Ankle Acupuncture (WAA) is an acupuncture treatment technique that was first described in 1975. It is simple, nearly painless and highly effective for multiple peripheral pain and internal conditions. The treatment does not require a patient to disrobe and can be performed in nearly any setting. The purpose of the talk is to demystify the results obtained with the treatment and help address the skepticism that continues to create bias regarding the use of acupuncture.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this activity, participant will be able to –
1. Describe three levels of the nervous system for which there is evidence that WAA has an effect.
2. Discuss the action of serotonin in the transmission of pain.
3. Explain why an acupuncture intervention can have an impact on the mechanism of chronic pain.
4. Design an acupuncture study that can be performed in a clinic setting using fNIR technology.
