Overview
During this brief 1-hour webinar you can learn more about acupuncture for the pediatric population.
Description
Children possess a very young and strong Qi; therefore, require less acupuncture points accessed and lower stimulation than adults. As they go through their developmental phases, they transition through the five elements commonly referenced in Eastern medicine. Subsequently, the approach to pediatric acupuncture if different than working with adults and often requires the provider to have a good Qi balance and storytelling skills to have a positive connection with the child.
Learning objectives
At the conclusion of this LIVE webcast physician participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the recommended approach for working with pediatric patients.
- Discuss the benefits of combining acupuncture with self-hypnosis.
- Describe treatment styles that should be avoided when working with the pediatric population.
- Recognize the use of the five elements within all the developmental states of a child’s life.
Wendy Webb, CPNP-AP
Wendy Webb is currently the Assistant Director of the Interdisciplinary Intensive Pain Treatment (IIPT) program within the Pediatric Pain Management Department at Stanford Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, California. The IIPT program is a functional rehabilitation program designed exclusively for kids who have been severely impacted by their chronic pain and are no longer participating in age-appropriate activities. Wendy began her career as a registered nurse almost 20 years ago and has extensive training working in women’s health, mother/baby postpartum, NICU, and pediatrics.
As a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Wendy has specialized her training in pediatric pain management and takes a multidisciplinary approach to working with her patient population. In 2018, she received formal training for medical acupuncture/acupressure and has incorporated it into her practice to treat neonatal abstinence syndrome, post operative pain, and a wide range of chronic pain diagnoses.
