This webinar will briefly summarize the Western Medical Acupuncture (WMA) approach based on neurophysiological mechanisms of deep somatic nerve stimulation via acupuncture needling and electroacupuncture. It will use these mechanisms to explain the generic principles of point selection (PoPS) used in the WMA approach and use them to outline the development of some standard protocols used in the treatment of chronic MSK pain from the back, hips, and knees.

At the end of this activity, participant will be able to:

• Summarize the key mechanisms of acupuncture needling and electroacupuncture
• Describe the typical WMA approach to peripheral MSK pain (PoPS)
• Outline how this approach is used in the treatment of chronic back, hip and knee pain
• Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using EA in some of these conditions
