OVERVIEW:

Acupuncture has a rich history of practices and traditions that date back thousands of years. There is no limit to time that could be spent exploring the many treatments and speculating on the potential and fascinating mechanisms of action that often result in amazing benefits to patients. Medicine is increasingly being driven by expensive high-tech and pharmaceutical solutions with the looming threat of the hands-on practice of medicine being replaced by an AI programmed device. Medical Acupuncture provides a nonpharmaceutical, low-tech, minimally invasive, nearly cost free, compassionate approach to patient care provided by a physician directly to a patient. There are many treatments that can be provided in a few minutes yet could potentially be the very therapy that tips a patient’s trajectory towards health and away from illness.

Course Organization:

  • Overview of the history, traditions and scientific basis of acupuncture
  • Case presentations and demonstrations of simple treatments of several commonly encountered problems that patients may present with in any setting
  • Hands on practice with a variety of acupuncture needles

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

Any resident or physician in any type of medical practice with any specialty should attend. This gathering is to discuss and demonstrate simple acupuncture treatments that can be used in any setting to relieve physical and psychic pain. Physicians who want to explore sensible and realistically achievable treatment options to enhance the wellbeing of their patients for the cost of a few minutes and a few pennies of material. Physicians who would like to know it is possible to end a long day or shift at work and feel that they truly and unexpectedly helped a patient that day.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to

  • Recognize that for the cost of a few minutes of time and a few pennies worth of materials, acupuncture might be a pragmatic tool to consider incorporating into their practice.
  • Consider further training in acupuncture with the goal of helping patients live a life that is tolerable over both the short and long term.
  • Appreciate the possibility of “treating the pain in front of them” while still practicing mainstream medicine.

WANT TO ATTEND:

This event is free to attend, but registration is prefered to account for materials.
