SUMMARY:Fast and Effective Diagnosis and Treatment Techniques for the Cervical Spine Region Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Jay Sandweiss will share valuable techniques for diagnosing and treating pain and dysfunction of the cervical spine region. Clinical conditions such as: whiplash syndrome\, torticollis\, cervical radiculopathy\, acute and chronic neck pain\, and TMJ pain and dysfunction are explored with many treatment options. Attendees will learn principles and applications of osteopathic diagnosis and treatment procedures. The systems of Muscle Energy Technique\, Strain-Counterstrain\, Myofascial Release\, and Functional Release will be explained\, demonstrated\, and practiced with careful supervision. A review of the functional anatomy of the neck region also includes “hands-on” practice of manual muscle testing for all major cervical muscle groups. Attendees will gain powerful\, clinically useful treatment techniques for addressing problems such as: facet joint restrictions\, muscle pain and weakness\, fascial restrictions\, trigger points\, ligament sprains\, and lymphatic-vascular issues.

SUMMARY:Virtual Review Course
DESCRIPTION:The Medical Acupuncture Review Course has been developed to provide a broad-based refresher course on the major subject matter areas with which a well-trained physician should be familiar. The review course is especially useful as a refresher for those who obtained their acupuncture training some time ago and for those who are seeking an organized review prior to taking the ABMA Board Certification Examination. \nThe overall objectives of the Medical Acupuncture Review Course are for a participant to be able to: \n\nAnalyze and solidify previously acquired knowledge and experience in medical acupuncture\nOrganize and reinforce understanding of the basic material appropriate for a physician practicing acupuncture in North America\nDifferentiate and examine participant’s previous studies of certain specialized aspects of acupuncture not always utilized in traditional practice

SUMMARY:Neuroinflammation in Acupuncture and Trigger Point Physiology: Implications for Clinical Practice Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss basic science and clinical experimental evidence that neuroinflammation is present at clinically involved acupuncture points as well as at trigger points\, causing the clinical phenomena of pain and tenderness. This modern evidence serves to corroborate acupuncture treatment principles outlined in the Huangdi Neijing\, and has important implications for acupuncture diagnostic examination. \nPresented by Peter Dorsher\, MD

SUMMARY:Acupuncture Energetic and Segmental Approaches to Treat Pelvic Pain Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Joseph Audette\, MD\, MA \nThis webinar will discuss the current scientific evidence for the treatment of pelvic pain conditions with acupuncture. The focus of the discussion will highlight the treatment protocols used and their deficits. We will then propose an Acupuncture Energetic approach with a discussion of the neuroanatomy of pelvic pain and the importance of including adequate segmental treatments. The focus will be on use of the Very Point® technique and dry needling approaches to treat both local and segmental dysfunction in pelvic pain. \nObjectives: \n\nDiscuss the current evidence for the use of acupuncture in chronic pelvic pain conditions.\nImprove the quality of the practice of acupuncture with a more detailed understanding of the neuroanatomy of chronic pelvic pain.\nEfficiently integrate both segmental and myofascial acupuncture techniques into treatment of chronic pelvic pain conditions\nImprove the quality of the practice of acupuncture with a more detailed understanding of treatment approaches for specialized medical and pain conditions

SUMMARY:Adverse Events from Acupuncture: Eye & CNS Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Donna Pittman\, MD\, FAAMA \nDescription: \nAn adverse event is a harmful or negative outcome that may happen when a patient has been provided medical care. One in ten acupuncture patients will experience an adverse event. This presentation will focus on injuries that can happen due to improper needling of points around the eye and near the central nervous system. Local anatomy and correct needling instructions will be given for acupuncture points which have a greater possibility of incurring an adverse event. \nObjectives: \nAt the end of this activity\, participant will be able to – \n\nDefine an adverse event.\nDescribe common and rare adverse events due to acupuncture.\nIdentify acupuncture points around the eye and apply safe insertion techniques.\nIdentify points at the posterior neck and spine and apply safe insertion techniques.

SUMMARY:Auriculotherapy Meets the Field of Psychology
DESCRIPTION:11th International Auriculotherapy Symposium\nTreatment by the Ear using Needling and other Methods. Presentations are geared towards Psychologists\, physiotherapists\, psychiatrists\, nurses\, midwifes\, dentists\, general physicians\, and acupuncturists. \nAll presentations will be in English. An online version will be organized in both English and French. \nIn line with the tradition of Paul Nogier\, recent developments in Auriculotherapy (Earacupuncture (AT) focus on treatment of psychic syndromes. AT may be a first-line intervention\, but is also practiced by psychotherapists to support Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)\, Psychodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Psychopharmacology (PhT) interventions. The 11th International Auriculotherapy Symposium will be building bridges between AT and psychotherapy. \nResearchers and practitioners are invited to submit their work in the whole field of psychology\, where AT interventions may contribute to a complex multidisciplinary approach that is a milestone in integrative medicine. \nBackground: the number of people diagnosed to have psychological disorders such as depression\, anxiety\, functional disorders\, and PTSD is rising worldwide. SUMMARY:36th ICMART World Medical Acupuncture Congress
DESCRIPTION:ICMART congresses are well known for their high scientific standards and are great social events. They are a great opportunity to get the newest developments on scientific acupuncture\, related techniques\, research and clinical practice. This year we continue with great keynote lectures\, workshops and clinical cases from outstanding speakers who will join the congress. We also promote lectures in small groups so people will have the chance to get in touch. Our aim is to promote integration of acupuncture in daily clinical practice and national healthcare systems to highlight the role of acupuncture in terms of clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness\, as well as reduction in use of drugs to benefit both the patient and and the environment.
