SUMMARY:Introduction to Korean Hand Therapy (KHT) - A Correspondence Microsystem for Patients and Practitioners Webinar
DESCRIPTION:PART ONE of the Korean Hand Therapy Essentials: A Three-Part Introduction for Patient Care and Practitioner Wellness Webinar Series \nPresented by Barbara de la Torre\, MD\, FAAMA \nKorean Hand Therapy represents one of the most clinically practical microsystems available to medical acupuncturists\, offering immediate applications for both clinical practice and self-care. This foundational webinar introduces core KHT principles and provides an overview of correspondence therapy. Participants will explore the historical development of KHT by Dr. Tae Woo Yoo\, and experience firsthand how correspondence therapy can enhance their current practice. \nA portion of this session focuses on self-care applications\, with live demonstrations of techniques that practitioners can use for their own health maintenance. Select clinical cases will illustrate KHT’s potential\, while discussion of current research highlights opportunities for evidence-based integration. This session provides a taste of what comprehensive KHT training offers\, focusing on immediately applicable techniques for both patient care and practitioner wellness. \nObjectives:\n1. Identify the fundamental principles of KHT correspondence therapy and their clinical applications\n2. Demonstrate basic KHT self-care techniques for practitioner health maintenance\n3. Analyze available research on KHT and recognize opportunities for further\ninvestigation\n4. Apply basic KHT techniques to enhance current medical acupuncture practice

SUMMARY:Interosseous Membrane Stimulation An Effective and Underutilized Treatment Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Michael Freedman\, MD\, FAAMA \nThis presentation will discuss the use of interosseous membrane stimulation and the proposed mechanism of action of the treatment. Three of the myriad conditions with pain in the distal extremeties for which this stimulation is an effective treatment will also be presented. Participants will learn a safe\, minimally invasive and effective acupuncture option. \nAt the end of this activity\, participant will be able to – \n\nIdentify at least 3 factors that contribute to the control of blood flow to the extremities.\nDescribe evidence for autonomically mediate mechanism of action of interosseous membrane stimulation.\nIdentify at least 3 disease processes for which the treatment is effective.

SUMMARY:Auricular Trauma Protocol (ATP) for Extraordinary Stress and Its Psychologic and Somatic Manifestations Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Mitch Elkiss\, DO\, FAAMA \nTopic: ATP for stress\, sleep\, pain\, dependency. \nThe Auricular Trauma Protocol\, at the request of the Department of Defense\, was created in 2010 for treating PTSD in the military. It was found to be successful in helping wounded warriors cope with their stress\, pains\, sleeplessness\, and drug dependencies. It was tested in Afghanistan\, the Intrepid Center in Bethesda\, and at the Nellis AFB family medicine clinic. There is evidence of its benefits that will be presented. In 2012\, the military approached us about developing advanced strategies for treating stress issues\, pain management concerns\, sleep disturbances\, and drug dependencies. Thus\, was created the Basic I and Basic II patterns. They are based on the foundational ATP with added points for personalization of treatment. \nThe origins\, logic\, and clinical utilization of the ATP and its Basic I and Basic II derivatives in the treatment of patients will be discussed in depth. The focus will be on patients with problems related to Stress\, Pain\, Sleep\, and/or Dependency. \nObjectives: \nAt the end of this activity\, participant will be able to – \n\nIdentify the names and locations of the points used in the Auricular Trauma Protocol\nExplain the logic of the Auricular Trauma Protocol\nDiscuss the clinical use of the Basic I and Basic II derivatives of the Auricular Trauma Protocol

SUMMARY:Adverse Events from Acupuncture: Eye & CNS Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Donna Pittman\, MD\, FAAMA \nDescription: \nAn adverse event is a harmful or negative outcome that may happen when a patient has been provided medical care. One in ten acupuncture patients will experience an adverse event. This presentation will focus on injuries that can happen due to improper needling of points around the eye and near the central nervous system. Local anatomy and correct needling instructions will be given for acupuncture points which have a greater possibility of incurring an adverse event. \nObjectives: \nAt the end of this activity\, participant will be able to – \n\nDefine an adverse event.\nDescribe common and rare adverse events due to acupuncture.\nIdentify acupuncture points around the eye and apply safe insertion techniques.\nIdentify points at the posterior neck and spine and apply safe insertion techniques.
