DESCRIPTION:Presented by Mike Cummings\, MD \nThis webinar will briefly summarize the Western Medical Acupuncture (WMA) approach based on neurophysiological mechanisms of deep somatic nerve stimulation via acupuncture needling and electroacupuncture. It will use these mechanisms to explain the generic principles of point selection (PoPS) used in the WMA approach and use them to outline the development of some standard protocols used in the treatment of chronic MSK pain from the back\, hips\, and knees. \nAt the end of this activity\, participant will be able to: \n\nSummarize the key mechanisms of acupuncture needling and electroacupuncture\nDescribe the typical WMA approach to peripheral MSK pain (PoPS)\nOutline how this approach is used in the treatment of chronic back\, hip and knee pain\nDiscuss the advantages and disadvantages of using EA in some of these conditions
